Recruitment Cycle

Most internship employers post positions, screen applications, conduct interviews and extend offers during Peak Recruitment Periods. It is important to start searching early in the term prior to your desired start date. To maximize your chances of securing a position, it is recommended that students seek out their own opportunities in addition to utilizing York’s Internship Program posting board.

The calendar below is designed to assist you in planning your job search. Be sure to take advantage of these resources and supports available to you.

For Positions Starting January (Winter Term)

International Students: apply for a co-op work permit as soon as possible.

Employers continue to post, interview and extend offers

  • Celebrate your success in securing an internship!
  • If you were not able to secure an internship this term, reflect on what could be improved and plan for next term

If you are no longer eligible to continue in the internship program, use the Career Centre’s services to find a job outside of the internship program.

Finding your own Internship Position

In addition to York’s job posting system, you are encouraged to look for your own internship position through external job posting systems or your personal networks.

Job Search Support Services for Internship Students

The Internship Program supports students in securing internship opportunities through the following services:

Drop-in Job Search Advising (Tuesdays 2-4pm)

No appointment necessary! Visit us during drop-in hours to speak with the Recruitment & Job Search Coordinator to discuss job search strategies:

  • targeting opportunities on the Career Centre's Online System
  • reaching out to employers of interest
  • resources for finding internship opportunities beyond Internship Program postings
  • expanding your network

Résumé & Cover Letter appointment

The Recruitment & Job Search Coordinator will help you customize your résumé for a specific job and organization and ensure you are clearly demonstrating your fit for the position. Appointments can be booked on the Career Centre's online system and are released every Friday at 4:00pm for the following week.

Interview Practice Session appointment

The Recruitment & Job Search Coordinator will help you approach your next internship interview with increased confidence. Learn how to articulate your skills and accomplishments and understand how to conduct yourself during all phases of the interview process. Appointments can be booked on the Career Centre's online system and are released every Friday at 4:00pm for the following week.

Application or Interview Follow Up

Wondering why you are not receiving interview invitations or offers from employers? The Recruitment & Job Search Coordinator can contact an employer on your behalf to follow up and collect feedback on either your résumé or interview. To access this service it is required that you have completed a résumé feedback and/or interview practice session. Contact the Recruitment & Job Search Coordinator for more information.
