STEP 1: Review the Academic Requirements

Students interested in participating in the Internship Program must be 3rd year, full-time Honours students, specializing in one of the following programs of study and meet the academic requirements prior to applying for the program:

  • Accounting
  • Astronomy & Physics
  • Biophysics
  • Business & Society
  • Communication Studies
  • Economics (including Financial and Business Economics)
  • Finance
  • Human Resource Management
  • Information Technology
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Public Administration

Requirements for all Internship Students

  • Be enrolled in full-time studies (at least 9 credits) when applying to the internship program, except for summer term. Note: Once accepted into the program, students typically study full-time for at least one academic term while applying and interviewing for internship positions.
  • Not have been absent for more than two consecutive years as a full-time student from their Honours Degree studies.

All Students in Astronomy & Physics, Biophysics or Information Technology

Have a minimum of 9 credits remaining to complete their Honours or Specialized Honours Degree by the time they begin their internship (i.e. enrol in the Internship Work Term Course).

All Students in Accounting, Business & Society, Communication Studies, Economics, Finance, Human Resources Management, Management, Marketing or Public Administration

Have a minimum of 15 credits remaining to complete their Honours or Specialized Honours Degree by the time they begin their internship (i.e. enrol in the Internship Work Term Course).

Additional Requirements by Program

Accounting

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better in Accounting.
  • Successful completion of ADMS 2510 3.00 and ADMS 2511 3.00.
  • Successful completion of ADMS 3510 3.00, ADMS 3585 3.00 and ADMS 3595 3.00.

Astronomy & Physics

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 or better in Physics.
  • Successful completion of 9 PHYS credits at the 3000-level or higher.

Biophysics

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 or better in BPHS, BIOL, and PHYS courses overall.
  • Successful completion of 9 BPHS or PHYS credits at the 3000 level or higher, including SC/BPHS 3090 3.00.

Business & Society

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better in Business & Society.
  • Successful completion of 12.00 BUSO credits at the 3000-level.

Communication Studies

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better in Communication Studies.
  • Successful completion of 9.00 AP/COMN credits at the 3000-level.

Economics (including Financial and Business Economics)

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better in Economics.
  • Successful completion of AP/ ECON 2300 3.00, AP/ ECON 2350 3.00, AP/ ECON 2400 3.00, AP/ ECON 2450 3.00.
  • Successful completion of AP/ECON 3210 3.00 or AP/ECON 3480 3.00 or AP/ECON 3500 3.00, and at least 6.00 additional ECON credits at the 3000-level.

Finance

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better in Finance.
  • Successful completion  of 9.00 Finance credits at the 3000-level or higher.

Human Resources Management

  • Enrolled in Honours Bachelor of Human Resource Management (BHRM)
  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better in Human Resources Management.
  • Successful completion of 9.00 HRM credits at the 3000-level.

Information Technology

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.5 or better in Information Technology.
  • Successful completion of 9 ITEC credits at the 3000-level from the list below:
    • AP/ITEC 3010 3.00 Systems Analysis and Design I (formerly ITEC 2010 3.00)
    • AP/ITEC 3020 3.00 Web Technologies
    • AP/ITEC 3210 3.00 Applied Data Communications and Networks
    • AP/ITEC 3220 3.00 Using and Designing Databases
    • AP/ITEC 3230 3.00 Designing User Interfaces
    • AP/ITEC 3500 3.00 Risk Management
    • AP/ITEC 3505 3.00 IT Project Management

Management

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better in Management.
  • Successful completion of AP/ADMS 2200 3.00, AP/ADMS 2500 3.00, AP/ADMS 2510 3.00, AP/ADMS 2600 3.00.
  • Successful completion of AP/ADMS 3530 3.00 and AP/ADMS 3930 3.00, and at least 3.00 additional ADMS credits at the 3000-level.

Marketing

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better in Marketing.
  • Successful completion of AP/ADMS 3220 3.00, and at least 6.00 Marketing credits at the 3000- or 4000-level.

Public Administration

  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better in Public Administration.
  • Successful completion of AP/PPAS 3190 6.00 and AP/PPAS 3300 6.00.
